The fastest art in the Territory
DUAL Hidden Valley V8 Supercar champion Craig Lowndes' car (right) will be the
fastest piece of art in Australia this weekend. Team Vodafone's iconic rocket red and
its drivers, Craig Lowndes and teammate Jamie Whincup, were on show yesterday
when the most striking paint job on the grid was unveiled at the remote Northern
Territory community of Daly River, 200km southwest of Darwin.
The design aims to raise awareness of the work done by Red Dust Role Models, which has established long-lasting links with remote communities in the Top End and Central Australia, promoting healthy living for disadvantaged indigenous youth.
Jamie Whincup and Craig Lowndes were swamped by almost 60 locals, all eager to
get a sneak peak at their car and hear the roar of a race car in the most unlikely of backdrops.
Craig Lowndes is happy to promote the hard work fostered by the Vodafone
Foundation and Red Dust Role Models by gunning for glory at the Valley in new colours.
"To race with these colours this weekend is pretty special because of the meaning of heritage and Aboriginal community it stands for,'' he said.
"We are happy to do our part to spread the word.''
The art work of emerging Alice Springs artist Raymond Walters Japanangka
signifies what Red Dust Role Models means -- and he has a firsthand understanding after years working as a volunteer himself.
"It reflects the hard work Red Dust Role Models are doing by bringing cultures together,'' Walters said.
