When the plant is ready for harvest, families will gather with their coolamons (traditional carrying vessel). The families would sit down harvesting most of the day collecting in their coolamons these small grains. After the harvesting, the grounding process then begins with grinding stones used over many generations. The powder form is mixed with water to create a paste, baked in the ashes, cooked and ready for eating.
Depictions in painting show the harvesting process when the sticks and seeds are in the palm of your hand.
